    Description

This photo is an interesting 8” x 10” black & white glossy new photo reproduction of a mid-1920s MODEL ‘AC’ MACK Dump Truck owned by PALUMBO BROS. in front of their Chicago Office, with a child on the lower right in a matching Model AC Mack peddle car.
”SAMPLE” will not appear on your photo, it is only on the scanned image.
NOTE: Unfortunately this photo is not as dark and crisp as most of my photos, but is nevertheless a ‘Classic’ photo. I imagine the original photo was taken with an old fashioned timed exposure, and both the truck driver and the child in the peddle car moved while the photo was being exposed, and as a result both are blurry.
DESCRIPTION: A Chain-Drive Hard-Rubber-Tired ‘AC’ MACK dump truck owned by PALUMBO BROS. of Chicago, is posed in front of their office, while a child in the lower right corner sits on a similar AC MACK peddle car. The original photo was most likely a timed exposure, since the child is moving his head making his image blurry. PALUMBO BROS. was a prominent Chicago area excavator for many years, always using the ad line: “We Move the Earth”. The Palumbo phone number was Seeley 4006, with the address W. ‘something’ St. This AC is handsomely pinstriped. The AC has no headlights, but does have side cowl-mounted kerosene lanterns, an open “C Cab” with rolled-up side curtains, and wooden frame windshield which would be hinged for ventilation. This AC would be a 1922 or later, since the adjustable louvers on the side-mounted split-radiators were introduced in 1922.  This full 8x10 photo is borderless.
MACK “AC”:  The famous Mack Model “AC” was the truck that made Mack famous around the world, and was known as the “Bulldog” Mack for its rugged dependability in WWI Europe ... a nickname that stuck and gave rise to the phrase “Tough as a Mack truck”.  Some 40,200 “AC” Macks were produced from 1916 to 1938, one of the longest production runs of any model truck.  Built with a 4-cylinder gas engine and a 4-speed transmission with chain-drive, the “AC” was well suited for tough construction work.  The split side-radiator behind the engine, allowed for a sloping hood design and better driver visibility.  A ‘motometer’ sits atop the center of the rear mounted radiator, for the driver to monitor engine temperature, manually opening and closing the side radiator louvers to cool or warm the engine.  Some of these rugged chain drive AC Macks were used up into the early 1950s ... hard to believe!
