    Description

Antique apothecary pharmacy quack medicine advertising container.  I read that John Moffatt introduced medicine bitters to New York in the 1830s.  His son, William B. Moffatt, took over the business and introduced these Vegetable Life Pills in 1845.  The label references an Act of Congress of 1850.  This fabulous piece measures 2.25 x 1.25 x 1 inch.  Insides are actually a stiff paper and I can see some advertising inside, so the inside has a fold out flyer or ad inside.  As you can see it does have tears, scuffs and stains as shown.  Side is open and some pills can slide out, several left inside.  Only for display collecting.  Estate find.
