    Description

This is a complete set of ration books 1 - 4 plus the leather holder that belonged to Martin Bembenek from Chicago, Illinois.  It also includes an application form for Ration Book 3 that was completed by Martin.  That is dated 1943.
Book 1 is from May, 1942 and has 3 stamps left in it.  Book 2 is not dated and does not have any stamps left in it.  Book 3 has 4 pages of stamps with only 4 stamps missing.  I do not know how many pages of stamps were originally included.  Book 4 has 5 pages of stamps.  There are lots of stamps, many say Spare, some say coffee, one says sugar.  There are red stamps with different letters and numbers.  There is a page of green stamps with letters and numbers as well.   On the back of Book 5 it says "When you have used your ration, salvage the Tin Cans and Waste Fats.  They are needed to make munitions for our fighting men.  Cooperate with your Salvage Committee.  Printed 1943.
There is also an application for War Rations for the same gentleman.  It was postmarked May 31 1943 and has a 2 cent stamp that has been postmarked.  That is dated 1943.
There is also a holder which looks like leather to me.  It has two inner pockets.  It measures 7 1/2 wide and 5 1/2 inches long.  It has just some light white marks on one side.  The set is sold used as is.
